Este libro ha sido diseñado para usarse en grupos de discusión y clases pequeñas en una gran variedad de lugares. Las preguntas al final de cada capítulo deben estimular una discusión vigorosa. Aliente a los estudiantes a reflexionar sobre ellas antes de la clase y prepararse así para la discusión. Muchos de los capítulos incluyen preguntas adicionales dentro del texto, que también pueden ser útiles.
Un breve resumen de los capítulos puede ayudarle en su preparación y organización. El primer capítulo introduce el concepto del reino de Dios, así como algunos de los tópicos conectados con su interpretación. Los capítulos dos tres y cuatro tratan de las tentaciones de Jesús en el contexto de su ubicación histórica. Se enfocan respectivamente en la política, la religión y la economía de la Palestina del primer siglo. Estos cuatro capítulos brindan un fundamento esencial para el desarrollo del resto del libro.
El capítulo cinco cubre el principio del ministerio de Jesús, situándolo en el contexto del jubileo del Antiguo Testamento. El capítulo seis investiga las enseñanzas de Jesús relacionadas con los asuntos económicos. El capítulo siete enfoca las excusas que con frecuencia sirven como desvíos contemporáneos en cuanto a las enseñanzas de Jesús acerca de la riqueza. Debido a que el libro usualmente provoca una viva discusión, muchos grupos han hallado difícil cubrir un capítulo en una sola sesión de una hora. Hay una variedad de formas en las que los capítulos pueden organizarse para discusión.
El patrón ideal asigna dos sesiones para cada capítulo (veinticuatro sesiones). Esto permite tiempo de reflexión entre discusiones y brinda a los participantes la oportunidad de leer más cuidadosamente y absorber los temas más profundamente.
Un patrón más típico es asignar un capítulo por sesión (doce sesiones).
Para una secuencia de seis sesiones, la mejor combinación de capítulos sería: 1 y 2; 3 y 8; 4 y 5; 6 y 7; 10 y 11; 9 y 12 (seis sesiones).
Una secuencia más abreviada de sólo cuatro sesiones podría utilizar este patrón: 1-4; 5-7; 8-9; 10-12 (cuatro sesiones).
Le presento varias sugerencias para estimular la discusión:
Distribuya los libros a los participantes, con una asignación de lectura, antes de la primera sesión.
Anime a los estudiantes a que lean los pasajes claves directamente de los evangelios.
Pida a varios estudiantes que sean responsables de sub-secciones de un capitulo. Ellos podrían preparar algún material adiciona sobre un tópico en particular relacionado con su respectiva sección.
Considere rotar a los moderadores de la discusión en algunas sesiones.
Considere dividir los grupos grandes en grupos más pequeños, de tres a seis personas, para algunas de las discusiones.
Exhorte a los estudiantes a escribir las preguntas que surjan en el curso de la lectura antes de la discusión.
Provoque que todos participen, y evite que una o dos personas dominen la conversación.
